My Students
I teach fourth and fifth-grade Title I reading in one of the best rural schools in Oklahoma. My students are a diverse group with varying levels of learning that are pulled out daily to learn new reading skills in our reading intervention lab. Our classroom is a space where students enjoy coming to learn. We are a Title I school with the majority of our students receiving free lunch.
Many of my students do not have home internet access and are struggling with keeping invested in their distance learning programs.
They love to read, and many have requested assistance to help them stay on top of their skills during this time at home. Although we cannot all meet in person, the next best thing will be for me to provide them engaging opportunities to use at home now and throughout the year.
My students have curiosity, creativity, compassion, and positive attitudes. They are truly amazing people. Together, we will make the most out of this situation and continue to make learning fun!
My Project
We are excited to begin our unit on the Revolutionary War. In addition to reading a class novel, we will add small group lessons with the graphic novel Paul Revere's Ride. My students are far more engaged when they are reading and enjoying graphic novels. This book tells the story of Paul Revere's ride to Lexington in April 1775 to warn colonists in Massachusetts of approaching British troops. It is Written in graphic-novel format.
We are also using the picture book The End in our sequencing unit.
This wacky original fairy tale traces the courtship of a handsome knight and a beautiful princess . . . backwards! We have a sequencing game that we will play together after reading the book. We also need the colored pens to help us create the game cards.
Thank you for helping us create a fun and engaging learning opportunity!.
