Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Whether I am firing up a leaf blower to demonstrate Bernoulli's equation ; or presenting a Disney style music laser light show to illustrate sound waves, I know I am inspiring America's future scientists and engineers to embrace the world around them. Even if I do speak with an English accent.
Over 70% of my students are of Hispanic origin.
Many have been brought to the USA by dedicated parents willing to sacrifice their homeland for a better life for their children in the United States of America. Subsequently, no matter how hard these students may struggle with a new language and culture, they still wholeheartedly embrace the educational opportunities provided.
Some of my past students have performed so well on their AP and SAT exams, they've been accepted to the most prestigious colleges in the country. I am determined to maintain this tradition of excellence.
My Project
As the AP Physics course has been redesigned to incorporate inquiry-based learning, it is my goal is to deepen my students' understanding of basic physical concepts by fostering critical thinking and a hands on approach to science.
My students need high quality scientific equipment to carry out experiments on waves and Harmonic motion. In particular,we need power amplifiers and speakers to generate waves .The materials requested are for my students to carry out labs on wave dynamics, a complex topic that is fundamental to the new AP Physics 1 course. Without this understanding of wave dynamics, even the most competent student could not explain the workings of a loud speaker.
This is a college level introductory physics course; therefore, it is not only imperative, but essential that these students have the best physics experience possible. Ultimately, I hope my students will be inspired to continue their science journey and keep the USA at the crest of scientific

They will be able to truly interact with dynamic wave motion and not just look at static pictures in a textbook. With the recent changes in AP Physics our student numbers have doubled in the past 2 years. I feel that it is essential for a great Physics program to be hands on. We need this equipment to make it so.
