My Project

I have compiled a list of valuable reading materials for my Title One 4th grade students. I will use these texts to prepare my 4th graders for the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking assessments throughout the school year.

I have handpicked these texts from the B.E.S.T recommended reading list in order to promote a literacy experience with literature that is pertinent to Florida and American history.

Because we focus so much on reading comprehension throughout the year, we often don't get enough time to really dive into Social Studies and History. With these texts, we will be able to apply our learned comprehension strategies to texts about the Declaration of Independence, our statehood, and legendary figures in presidential history. We will also learn about setting and characterization in classic works like "Where the Red Fern Grows".

These texts require students to think about how our lives are impacted by our pasts, how settings contribute to the meaning of a text, and how characters are challenged by those around them.
