Rhythm, Rapping, and Reading

My Students

Our classroom is a place where students feel safe to learn, explore, and challenge themselves. We are an English Language Learner school where students come from many diverse backgrounds. We are also a Title I school where 100 percent of students receive free breakfast and lunch daily.

Each of us work hard every day to be the best we can be.

We work as a team and encourage one another. My students look forward to new experiences and opportunities the world has in front of them.

My Project

Flocabulary is a program that uses educational hip-hop music to engage students in their learning. The program connects reading fluency and vocabulary across the curriculum It is research based and aligned with Common Core for both ELA and Math. This program allows students to increase their vocabulary and apply their new words in context through practice. It also gives them opportunities to increase their fluency in a fun, meaningful way through songs and rap. It not only is a reading/vocabulary program, but also can be used in other curricular areas such as math and Language Arts. One skill in math that students can learn and practice are their basic multiplication facts. They love the raps that go with each fact family.

Students absolutely love the hip-hop raps that Flocabulary uses to teach them content area vocabulary and skills. My past students would enjoy every minute of the Flocabulary lessons and plead for more. Students also are so excited when they hear or see the words we have practiced in their everyday lives. It is so rewarding to see their growth and excitement when using Flocabulary.

Donations made to our classroom project with greatly impact student learning. By giving opportunities for students to connect their own passions of singing, rapping, rhythm and rhyming to content vocabulary, a love of learning will continue to be instilled.
