My Students

Our students are unique. They are talented, creative, and enthusiastic about music. We are a Title 1 school that is among the highest poverty in our state. Although we provide support for our students like free breakfast and lunch, we do not have enough to support music education.

The last time we were able to buy an instrument was 14 years ago.

All of our current instruments are breaking down and we do not have the means to repair or replace them. Even though we still compete in band festivals in Hawaii and beyond with what we have, a lot of students have to share instruments or cannot take them home on a regular basis.

My Project

This iPad gives students the chance to explore creating music. They can compose, record, self-assess their work to improve their performance. Using the newest technology will bring my students into the 21st century as student musicians. The iPad gives them access to multiple apps and programs to even improve ear training, sense of pitch, rhythm, and tone.

My band students only know paper and pencil.

A lot of time is wasted. An iPad can challenge them to go further. Composing music by writing and not hearing it back is frustrating and tedious for young adults who want to create their own compositions.

We will never forget how much you cared and provided the path to the 21st century for us.
