Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!
My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still come to school to explore, learn and grow.
I am working to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science, and social studies.
My Project
There is no better way to learn than through music and song. Children learn their colors, shapes, numbers and letters through rhythm, chants and repetition. I would like to provide my children with more opportunities to learn through music and songs.
These CD's and instruments will help to me teach my children about rhythm, blues, folk songs, and different cultures by learning songs and games with rhythm sticks and bells.
They will enjoy songs from Raffi, like Baby Beluga; and they will learn jazz for kids while they sing, clap, wiggle and shake. And Kindergartners love to move and wiggle! They will learn alphabet songs and rhyming words. They will learn poems and circle time songs.
I am also excited to introduce multicultural songs and use rhythm sticks for dance and singing songs with my kids.
