My Students

I have an amazing set of reading intervention students in grades pre-K through fifth grade. I teach at a very diverse school in Minnesota. My school is classified as a high-poverty school with many students participating in the free or reduced-price lunch program.

My students have a wide variety of abilities, interests, and challenges.

From learning support students to English language learners, I am here to teach them all and give them the best education possible that meets their unique needs! My school rocks!

My Project

Why teach children to rhyme?

Rhyming teaches children how language works.

It helps them notice and work with the sounds within words. Rhymes also help children experience the rhythm of language. As they recite nursery rhymes they learn to speak with animated voices. Someday they’ll read with expression, too.

When children are familiar with a nursery rhyme or rhyming book, they learn to anticipate the rhyming word. This prepares them to make predictions when they read, another important reading skill.

The games and activities I am asking for will help students to learn, recognize and use rhymes. Then students will be able to show me what they know by using the practice pages.

Because rhyming is fun, it adds joy to the sometimes daunting task of learning to read.
