Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first grade teacher at a fantastic urban Los Angeles elementary school. Most of my students are English Language Learners from low socioeconomic backgrounds. They are amazing children with a passion to learn.

During the day I am able to work with the students who struggle the most in reading. The time that I have with them is very limited and very important. However, I am only able to work with these students if the rest of the class has something to do independently. I struggle with keeping those students busy with engaging and educational activities.

The resources I requested will help solve this problem. They will give the students something to do that not only improves their reading but that they enjoy as well. The students will love using the giant rhyming flip book by themselves. They will also enjoy playing one of the rhyming games with a partner. Furthermore, the word sorts I requested will help students with both spelling and reading. With the students busy using these educational activities I will be able to work with those struggling students who truly need my undivided attention.
