Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It is plain and simple: I have incoming first graders that have multiple learning needs. They have auditory and visual processing delays. They have eye-hand coordination delays. They have difficulty determining whether a word rhymes with another. Help me meet their needs!
Our students come to our school to get the best education possible.
Unfortunately, our district is in dire need of basic materials. Some of the resources we need directly in the classroom we have to provide with our own finances. My students come from very diverse backgrounds and learning styles. I have a classroom that is culturally mixed. Their parents are busy trying to provide basic needs like food and clothing. They are in need of educational support both at home and school.
Our school is a Title I school. Most of our students receive free or reduced lunches. We are an economically challenged school. I have learning disabled, autistic, and auditory disabled students. Most of these students do receive limited special services through our psychologist and resource teacher. The remainder of the school day is spent in the regular classroom. Please help me provide a successful education year for my students.
My Project
My goal as a teacher is to provide an environment where all students feel they can learn and succeed. I want them gain a love of learning. These resources that I am trying to obtain will help my students with a basic phonemic requirement. They need to be able to hear, see, and manipulate sounds and rhymes. They will also be able to use these materials on a check out system for personal home use. We are such a paper-pencil system . . . these resources will provide another avenue for my students with special needs to have access to what we are learning. They will hear the sounds, see the sounds and touch manipulatives that reinforce rhyming words. Hopefully, by learning basic phonemic language, manipulating sounds and distinguishing and recognizing rhymes, my students will meet their grade level standards to become fluent readers.
I am fully aware that we are presently living in a very difficult economic situation.
I also understand that some of you make a big commitment to provide these much needed resources. Be assured! These resources will make a tremendous difference in our learning environment. They will be used effectively. They will help me further provide learning tools to students. These resources will allow me to differentiate the core curriculum to those students who have learning challenges.
