Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very special first graders in a high-needs area of a borough in New York City. Most of my students are English Language Learners or children with special needs, eager to learn and discover. Each student is unique in his or her own way and deserves to have the best educational experience possible. All of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Unfortunately, my classroom does not always have the supplies we need.
Thank you! Every donation makes a difference in my students' lives. I look forward to creating projects that will make our physical and virtual classrooms a joyful learning environment.
My Project
It is amazing what a student will do for incentives and rewards! My students rarely get rewards or recognition at home as they live in poverty and families are often unstable. Since I have been using treats in my classroom, students are more motivated to turn in their assignments, participate in class, and remain competitive with their peers. Students who usually don't do their work will be motivated to see their peers get a gift card or pop it for behaving and work completing work.
Since rewards are displayed in the classroom, students are more apt to abide by classroom rules and, most importantly, LEARNING from doing their work!
Also, the gift cards will be used to reward parents that make sure their students come to school every day and are prepared to learn.
