Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach in a diverse Title I school, where the majority of my students come from low-income families. My first graders uses the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. This framework teaches, encourages, acknowledges, and reinforces positive school behavior. I want to continue to improve the culture of my classroom by rewarding the positive behaviors of my students.
Our PBIS program encourages our students to show Preparation, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence.
This project is requesting items such as fidgets spinners, Play-Doh, squishies, and stress balls that address the mental health aspect of our program and keep students motivated to have positive behaviors. Our PBIS school-wide program is an energizing program that supports our safe and positive school culture.
Our PBIS program uses the PBIS rewards program, where students earn points in class for being Prepared, Respectful, having Integrity, and showing Excellence. The points the students earn, they use to purchase items in my PBIS classroom store.
Having PBIS incentives where students are rewarded for their behavior is an exciting way to maintain a positive classroom culture that focuses on both the social and emotional needs of our students.
