This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach third and fourth grade in a Title I school in Illinois. My school includes children in kindergarten through fourth grade and several classes of special education students for children in kindergarten through third grade. All of my students come from a very low socio-economic background. All of them qualify for free, federally funded lunch. We are definitely a no-frills school. We have the basics, but none of the extras. Most of the equipment in our room is decades old.
My students are very motivated to learn and try very hard.
They are well-behaved and very cooperative. Often their family situations make it difficult for them to do their best in school. Many of them read a year or two or more below their grade level education. This makes learning especially hard for my students,
They become so excited to be rewarded behavior and their work! Please help me to do this.
My Project
My students have very low self esteem. Their home lives often lead to severe depression and unhappiness. I try to make our classroom a special place for them to spend the day.
It makes a huge difference in student behavior and motivation to be rewarded for good behavior and completion of their work.
When students are on task and doing their work they receive tickets. I then pull tickets at the end of the week. The winners get to pick prizes from my price box. I have been buying prizes but are box is almost out of prizes. Please help me replenish the prize box.
My students also need new folders to organize their work. We also need a new stapler since all of our staplers are broken. My students need to feel good about themselves and these items will help to do that.
