I would like to be able to reward my students for sorting shapes with the use of this shape switch. When the three shapes are correctly placed, then the switch can activate music as a reward for the student. Many of my students have significant visual impairments. To be able to feel the shapes, sort them and be rewarded with music would mean a great deal to them. I teach special education for seven students with multiple handicaps. My students are functionally nonverbal and some of my students are also nonambulatory. At Metro School, my students receive instruction in: functional academics, speech, language and communication, physical and occupational therapy, music, art, library skills, prevocational skills and adapted physical education including an aquatics class. Reading, writing, math, science, self-help, communication, work skills, and other content and non-academic areas of instruction form the basis of our classroom schedule based on the student's IEP goals for the school year. Metro School serves approximately 200 moderately to severely disable students ranging in age from 5 to 21. Seven students would work with the shape switch this year and many students to come will continue to work with it. I want my students to have an instant reward of music for being able to sort three shapes. This switch will help my students to achieve one of their math goals.
