My students are amazing readers, makers, inventors, and thinkers who love to learn as much as possible! These students live in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where they love to spend their days with their toes in the sand and books in their hands. As their librarian, I see all students grades K-5 every single week, and I love to see how they develop as learners throughout elementary school.
These enthusiastic individuals embrace literacy by having fun with books and by sharing them with their friends, and they always bring their best, creative ideas to the library.
Their love of reading, making, and learning stands out and lets me know that the library should be a haven for all of these activities for them!
This year students in 4th and 5th grade were challenged to meet a reading goal. They were encouraged to read five books from the Elementary Battle of the Books reading list. Halfway through the year, many students have met this goal! They received a special bracelet and were recognized on our news program.
Now, students are exceeding their reading goals!
As the librarian, I want to encourage students to continue reading beyond the original five titles. I would like to recognize the students who are putting forth the extra effort and incentivize their peers to do the same.
This project would help purchase books that would reward students who go above and beyond! I truly think that these readers would be encouraged and excited for more reading opportunities. Please consider helping us get these books and rewarding our readers!
