This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny." ~ Frank Outlaw.
My students attend a prekindergarten through grade 5 elementary school in the South Bronx.
Our school is located in the poorest congressional district in the nation-an area with a very high concentration of poverty. Most, if not all, of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch.
My students are often told, "Do the right thing," but often require tangible rewards to reinforce and instill behaviors and habits of mind to respond appropriately to conflicts.
My Project
With your funding, my students will be recognized and rewarded for displaying positive behaviors with either a "Caught Doing Good" pencil, a sheet of glittery stickers, a healthy snack or a choice item from the class treasure box. When they are recognized and rewarded, these incentives will serve as a tangible reminder that positive behaviors are desired, valued and respected!
Your donations to this project will provide my students with tangible rewards for displaying positive behaviors.
Robert John Meehan said, "Too many students don't know what success feels like, thus repeated failure is no longer scary or painful, it's become the new norm. Help create the new norm."
