My Project
Middle school students love candies and small prizes. In my ELA classroom, I strive to help students gain confidence in their reading and critical thinking skills while having fun. My students have a punch card reward system and earn punches for asking great questions, offering positive responses, being kind and helping others. Once students have earned ten punches they can pick out a prize.
Classroom rewards can be a great way to boost a student's self-esteem, encourage positive behavior, and help motivate students.
Since starting the punch card reward system my students have been highly motivated in the classroom. They are asking more questions, engaging in positive classroom discussions, and helping others inside and outside the classroom. Earning a shoe charm, sticker, pop it bracelet, small toy or candy is a huge deal to a 7th grader. Some students have even been picking out prizes for other students who are having a rough day.
