I teach in a wonderful title one school that is in a very diverse neighborhood of New York City. Most of my students come from low-income homes, which means that many of my students are unable to purchase books for their very own. Each year our Parent Teacher Association and school librarian also make sure that the R.I.F. programs comes to our school each year. Through that program each child in our school, over 1200 students, receives a book for their own for free. I would love to be able to present my each of my students with a brand new book at the end of the school year.
In New York my fourth grade students work hard all year not only learning curriculum but also preparing and taking 3 promotional exams given by the State. My students take a three-day exam in English Language Arts, a three-day exam in Mathematics and a two-day exam in Science. After all their hard work throughout the school year I feel they deserve to be rewarded for their hard work and dedication to learning.
I am asking for one wonderful chapter book for each one of my wonderful students to take home and have as their very own. Hopefully seeing that their hard work does not go unnoticed and is not unrewarded, will encourage my students to continue to work hard and become life long learners.
