Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our scholars come to school on time, ready to work and learn every day. The majority of NBFA students are bused to school from neighborhoods across Bridgeport, Connecticut's largest city. Students are selected through a blind lottery and there is no admission criterion. Others come from neighboring towns such as Stratford, Waterbury, and Shelton. NBFA is the states only progressive Pre-K through 8th-grade public charter school with emotionally responsive practices. Students are taught using experience based learning to help develop essential social, emotional and critical-thinking skills. Distinguished students have been awarded scholarships to Fairfield College Preparatory School, Greens Farms Academy, Hopkins School, St. Luke's School and Notre Dame High School.

My Project

These rewards are part of a program to monitor both behavior and rewarding students for doing well. Each student is given a personal check with their name on it. I give stars to students for a variety of things including being kind, being prepared, and rewarding good behavior. I have found students LOVE fun dip and pop rocks which is why I put them in. I also have some students who can benefit from the fidget spinners. The package will last 2 months given the frequency in which I hand out stars. I'm positive students will appreciate this kind gesture, it goes farther than one may think...Sometimes the good students aren't rewarded enough!
