This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Beyond teaching Spanish, my responsibility is to reinforce values that are taught at home.
The 3 main positive values that the High School of Fashion Industries want to promote are RRS - RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY & SAFETY.
My students seek to have a unique learning experience and a specially tailored program for all students who have an interest in a fashion related field.
The school has created a matrix of positive behaviors that we want to reinforce. Some examples are USING KIND & POSITIVE LANGUAGE, BEING ON TIME TO SCHOOL & CLASS, THROWING OUT GARBAGE, BEING PREPARED WITH PENS, NOTEBOOKS, TEXTBOOKS, PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORMS, etc.
My Project
Fashion staff members now give out Fashion Dollars to students when they are caught exhibiting these positive behaviors. Students then use these Fashion Dollars to purchase reward items at our PBIS store. These items will include art supplies and cosmetic supplies, including lip gloss, nail polish and eye makeup.
In order to reinforce RRS, the school has introduced PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support - through the distribution of 'Fashion Dollars.'
The scientific research indicates that PBIS has the potential to transform the culture of the school into a place that values positive behavior and rewards students for their positive behavior.
