Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting these materials to provide students with reward, community and connection. In our school we give our Tiger Tickets to those students that are showing pride and respect in our school. With those tickets, they put them in a drawing and 20 kids each week get chosen to do a meaningful activity with an adult that they may not usually connect with. I love to do painting with them because it allows them to do a fun project while also talking and connecting with me and the other students who are chosen. I have found that this is a great way to build connections across grade levels and give student an opportunity to connect with others. Having a variety of pieces to choose from gives students a sense of ownership and interest and allows them to make something that they are proud to take home. Their finished piece serves as a conversation piece with family members and gives them a starting point to have some meaningful conversations at home.
