My Project

Project Summary:

This project will engage 4th-grade students in an interactive learning experience about the Boston Tea Party.

Students will research the historical event, write and perform a Reader’s Theater script, and conclude with a celebratory tea party to reflect on the impact of the event. This hands-on approach will enhance their understanding of the American Revolution and the significance of colonial resistance.

Project Goals:

Develop historical literacy by studying the Boston Tea Party through primary and secondary sources.

Foster creativity and collaboration as students write and perform a Reader’s Theater script.

Encourage critical thinking by discussing the perspectives of both the colonists and the British.

Create an immersive learning experience with a historically themed tea party.

Implementation Plan:

- Research Phase (Weeks 1-2): Students will explore the causes and effects of the Boston Tea Party.

- Script Development (Weeks 3-4): In small groups, students will draft and revise a Reader’s Theater script based on their research.

- Rehearsals & Performance (Weeks 5-6): Students will practice and perform the script for classmates and parents.

- Tea Party Celebration (Week 7): A culminating tea party featuring period-appropriate foods, discussions, and student reflections.

Budget Breakdown:

- Books & Research Materials: needs funding

- Costumes/Props: (already funded)

- Tea & Crumpets: (already funded)

- Hot/Cold Cups: (already funded)

- Spring Water: needs funding

- Coffee Machines for Making Tea): needs funding

Expected Outcomes:

By the end of the project, students will have a deeper understanding of the Boston Tea Party, improved literacy and performance skills, and a greater appreciation for history through active participation.

Conclusion:

This grant will provide 4th graders with an engaging and educational opportunity to bring history to life. Through Reader’s Theater and a tea party, students will gain a memorable, hands-on experience that strengthens their connection to American history.
