This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We have had an amazing year in our very old building! We have gained major grants and district support to revitalize our library collection.
The books we have added to our collection bring joy, smiles and up to date knowledge to our readers.
However, the space needs a bit of perking up to complete the makeover. The environment we hope to create with these items in our project will visually engage our elementary readers and highlight our collection.
As an older building, there is much space above the shelving. We want to highlight areas of the collection and add wall decals with photo-realistic animals for our large non-fiction area. Due to the age of the building, we cannot add paper to the walls. Decals work well in this space and grab students' attention.
Additionally, book easels and book ends help to create bookstore-style browsing.
We are an urban school in a completely Title I district. Libraries are impactful spaces for our students.
