Revamp the Class with Music and Markers

My students need music during independent work time as well as the ability to have dance parties during rainy day recess. A new CD player and the other materials (notebooks, wipes, markers) would revamp the class!

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ravizza's classroom raised $473

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a diverse mix of English Language Learners that are predominately Latino. They are eager to learn and motivated with hands on experiences. They are a compassionate community that enjoys collaborative learning. We are part of a urban public school with high needs and 95% free lunch. Many of the parents work 2-3 jobs. Our students are low performing but always want to try new things. They are a sweet group who really want to make a difference in their school community.

My Project

Currently I am using a stereo system in my class that has a broken CD player built in. So I run a discman( that runs on batteries) with an auxiliary cord. It is a total pain. However the benefits of music in the classroom are amazing. I greet the children with songs in the morning, setting the tone for our day of learning. We listen to classical music and jazz during independent work time.

During the rainy winter when indoor recess occurs a dance party is critical to getting movement throughout the day.

Music allows my students to enjoy movement inside the classroom. We can turn our classroom into a YOGA studio by pushing the tables aside, taking our shoes off and listening to melodic tunes while we do sun salutations.

The other supplies listed allow for the class to run smoothly as well as keep our classroom healthy during the cold and flu season.

Spiral notebooks,Expo markers, erasers and cleaning supplies allow for students to have the supplies they need at their disposal. Students use expo markers on their mini whiteboards to solve math problems as well as share their thinking when we are doing work together on the rug or in small groups. The wipes and cleaning supplies allow for students to take responsibility of caring for their materials. They enjoy classroom jobs which include cleaning tables and laptops. This year my students have really enjoyed writing. The notebooks will replace their current writer's notebooks as they are already full.
