My Students
Our students at K. Elementary School come from the vigorous land of Puna on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. A diverse community, our ʻohana (families) bring with them a wealth of knowledge in many disciplines including fishing, hunting, or even farming. Naturally, this knowledge is passed down from our ʻohana to our keiki (children) and thus, our haumāna (students) are incredibly adept in the ways of living in Puna. Still, our resilient ʻohana need help in getting the tools and supplies they deserve to be successful.
I believe that if our students combine their families' knowledge with modern academics and materials, they will become as powerful as the volcanic explosions of Kīlauea.
My Project
As students transition back from distance learning, they will need supplies to stay hydrated and organized. Classroom water bottles will ensure that every student stays hydrated and ready to learn; these water bottles will be housed and washed in our classroom. Because it has been difficult to stay organized for students during distance learning, our students would benefit from using binders to collect and display their classroom work. Snacks would benefit those who need an extra boost during the school day.
