Retelling Stories With Felt

My Students

My class is made up of seventeen very energetic boys and girls. We encourage them to be themselves and to see similarities and differences in all the children in the classroom. We encourage them to break stereotypes. We want them to be accepting of other genders and cultures. We are in need of some new and updated supplies. Every year, wear and tear shows up on our favorite things. The children enjoy what we have in the classroom and what we use outside for fun.

My Project

My students love to listen to stories read by an adult right after rest time. I often hear the children talking about the books with each other throughout the day. Sometimes they ask for the same book to be read over and over again. They will sometimes use the dolls in the doll house as the characters or the animals in the block center if the book read had animals in the story. Here I am asking for the supplies to allow them to retell the books they have heard.

Every child loves to use felt characters to retell stores to adults or to other children.

These supplies give my students opportunities to retell stores with the exact characteristics used in the books.

I am also requesting different size felt boards. Often the children like to mimic what others are doing. This gives many children an opportunity to retell stories at the same time in different parts of the classroom.
