Can you imagine how difficult it is to get children engaged in great literature in this age of technology? They are so flooded with different kinds of technology that reading is taking a back seat.
I am the lucky teacher of 21 kids in the morning and 22 kids in the afternoon.
I teach 43 little minds that will be our future leaders. They are eager to learn new things in a variety of ways each and everyday, and I am just as eager to teach them new concepts daily. I only have them for 2 1/2 hours each day. They are still expected to learn the same concepts as those who are in school for 6 hours a day. We must make each minute of our day productive and meaningful.
My Project
The story telling kits I am requesting will go in our reading center for the kids to use to retell a story. They will first be used to introduce new authors, characters and books in our classroom. After we have read the book aloud in class, these kits will be added to our reading center. The children will be able to use the story telling kits whenever they choose to retell the stories that we have read aloud. They love books and the story telling kits such at No David, Pete the Cat, and If you Give a Pig a Pancake will bring the books to life for them!
Donations to the project will make a difference because it will help to build a love for reading.
Kindergarten is the year when children will learn to love or hate reading. We can take this opportunity to make it a fun and inviting skill. We can approach it in a hands-on exciting way with these story telling kits!
