This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students come from a variety of cultures and home situations. Many begin their educational journey ill equipped and find themselves struggling behind peers. Despite these differences and challenges, we have come together with a common goal: to improve our minds with quality education.
Our school, and the community it serves, strives to close achievement gaps with dedicated teachers and high quality instruction.
These young minds deserve to experience the scholastic success that hard work, dedication, and effort can provide.
My Project
My students need 30 copies of the Roald Dahl classics Matilda and The BFG to improve literacy skills by participating in Novel Study Units. Additionally, the gift card from Teachers Pay Teachers will enable me to purchase high-quality novel study units made by teachers that align with the Common Core standards. These materials will enable my students to effectively participate in an in-depth literature study unit that is aligned with common core standards. Rather than reading excerpts of novels or other short passages from a basal text, students will accomplish reading an entire novel, a feat many have found to be out of reach. Students will practice utilizing strategies for comprehension and vocabulary acquisition in the context of a novel, rather than detached basal lessons and worksheets.
Donations to this project will enhance the lives of my students by introducing them to a well-written novel that explores the importance of kindness.
There are some books that forever influence a person's life. I hope these books will foster a love of reading that will positively impact my students for the rest of their lives.
