Restore Trust in Education: Fulfill a Digital Promise to Scholars
Help me give my students a renewed sense of trust in our education system by awarding ten Chromebooks to deserving scholars that pass the annual WIDA exam.

My Project
My students are wonderful, hardworking, eager to learn and I am simply blessed to spend my time with them. However, while they enjoy scholarship in my class, they have lost trust in public education system and disengage in other classes.
Several years ago, there was an ambitious yet mediocrely executed initiative that awarded Chromebooks to high achieving scholars that passed the WIDA exam.
My students are confused as to why they are not awarded Chromebooks. However, I strongly believe that a personalized incentive, coupled with a caring and compassionate educator, alongside a rigorous curriculum and expectations will always motivate a scholar to excel…I just need the data to prove it.
A promise was made: students who achieved a passing score on the WIDA test — a significant milestone for English language learners — would be rewarded with a Chromebook. A scholar that passes the WIDA exam is 66.8% more likely to graduate high school.
That promise remains unfulfilled.
These students worked hard, overcame language barriers, and met the expectations set before them. Yet, the reward they were told to expect never came. This not only undermines their trust in the education system but sends the wrong message about the value of hard work. Additionally, by funding this, you would not only incentivize the 5 scholars poised to excel at the WIDA exam this year but all 59 students that really just need a strong push to succeed academically. Finally, if more than ten scholars succeed at the WIDA exam, I can use the data gathered from this fundraiser to elicit more support from my school and local community. As Baltimore spends more than $22,000 per pupil, this small incentive is a worthwhile investment.
