Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Restorative justice is especially important at Chapman Elementary School because it helps our students learn critical skills early on—like empathy, responsibility, and peaceful conflict resolution—that shape how they interact for the rest of their lives. Students are still learning how to name their feelings, solve problems, and regulate their behavior. Restorative practices teach students to express emotions in healthy ways and teach them active listening and empathy.

Restorative justice focuses on repairing harm, rebuilding relationships, and giving all parties a voice.

Both colorful sand, mini bottles and modeling clay will allow individuals to externalize emotions and process experiences in a nonverbal, sensory-rich way—especially helpful for our students, trauma survivors, or those with communication challenges. When students feel seen, heard, and safe, they behave better and work better. We want to use art to create culture of respect and inclusion; increase trust between students, teachers, and peers; and support peer relationships and reduce bullying.
