This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 10th grade English students are unique individuals that come from diverse backgrounds. As a low-income, high-poverty urban school, my students arrive at our school from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. We have students who have come from approximately 30 different countries and speak at least 23 separate languages. They bring their own personalities, histories, and interests to help make our classroom community an energetic place. While my students face multitudes of hardships, their resiliency is inspiring and motivates me to work hard for them. Whether through more materials, unique learning experiences, or simple supports, my goal is to do whatever I can to support them.
What makes these students so amazing is their positive attitudes, motivation to improve, and the ability to use their differences as ways to teach each other.
Every year we work together towards the group and individual goals to develop ourselves as better readers, writers, students, and humans. On paper, my job as their teacher is to provide them with the literacy skills they need to be successful in our world, but I find that it grows into so much more through our journey together.
My Project
As we are entering the halfway point through the year, our materials need some replenishing! We have a system in class with our binders and annotation kits. Students read, take notes, and interact with their materials on a daily basis. Additionally, students have been reliant on my classroom snacks to help them make it through the day and service their needs.
Students deserve to have materials to help them learn and grow!
This is why I am asking for more paper, binders, dividers, and highlighters to help with our daily class systems. We also need snacks to help replenish our stock as well as new stickers to help with our classroom rewards. Lastly, we are also requesting a craft kit for students to use during our social emotional awareness time.
