Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students all come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds near the heart of Houston, Texas. They do not have many opportunities outside of the classroom to grow in their learning because their parents are often busy working and cannot help them. They are hardworking students and I want to be able to provide them with opportunities to experience a variety of activities both in and out of the classroom.
My school is a Title I school where the majority of our students are from low-income homes.
The school does its best to provide what they can to our students, but cannot always meet the demands. After school programs are an opportunity for them to safely explore and grow as future members of our society.
My Project
A new year means a new beginning! It is time to replace a lot of the At-Your-Seat Storage Sacks to help my students manage their own pencils, crayon, and journals. They won’t need to worry about getting their most-used supplies from other places to save on time and space. Also, I am big on organization and I want each of my students to have a good sturdy binder to keep their work together in one spot. This is a good life skill for them to begin to learn at this young age.
I don't want to ask my students' families to bring anything extra, so I am reaching out to those who can donate to help my students with a few supplies to take the burden off already struggling homes.
My goal with my students is to have all of their daily work easily accessible to them at their seats. With these binders and tabs, they can get right into our morning work, math problem-solving journals, and reading practice without having to stop and pass out packets. All they have to do is pull them out of their At-Your-Seat Storage Sacks, and they are ready to go! The write and wipe pockets are perfect for group work and workstations, without having to make a lot of copies!
