This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year, I am one of the English teachers teaching ninth grade ELA in an inner-city high school. I teach about 45 students, and I love them dearly. They each have such unique personalities and senses of humor that they bring into my classroom. Many of them are quiet but with the biggest hearts, you'll ever meet. The ones that aren't quiet you can hear coming down the hall from a mile away.
Even in a pandemic, I count myself as one of the lucky teachers that got a good portion of students to attend their classes every day.
They kept me involved in their lives, and they were always so polite whenever they joined or left my classroom for the day. I even still have my previous year's students popping in to say hi once a week!

My Project
Now we are at the halfway point in our year and our classroom supplies need a bit of a tune-up. We have been slowly switching away from a "doing all of our work on the computers" system into doing more work on paper. The printer paper will help with our classroom supply for printing out hard copies of our work, and the highlighters will help when we are working on our annotations! The erase markers are used when students are writing examples of our classwork on the board. Additionally, students have been reliant on my classroom snacks to help them make it through the day and service their needs.
Students need these materials to succeed and grow, especially as we push into the second half of our year.
This is why I am asking for more printer paper and highlighters to help with our daily class systems. We also need snacks to help replenish our stock as well as new stickers to help with our classroom rewards. Lastly, we are also requesting a craft kit for students to use during their socio-emotional awareness times in class.
