My students need chili pots, blenders, cookie sheets, colanders, tongs, mitts, ladles, pans, pizza cutters, spatulas, spoons, cutting boards, aprons, hair nets, and other cooking utensils and items for our restaurant.
Cooking with kids is not just about ingredients, recipes, and cooking. It's about harnessing imagination, empowerment, and creativity.

They love to be challenged and often exceed expectations.
Every day they come to school and are eager to get to work. They all have their own quirks and teach me something new every day. Every student works significantly below their grade level but works hard every day to learn new skills. They are full of curiosity, energy and incredible potential. We focus on the positive and celebrate every success that our students achieve. Every day we do our best to make sure that our students have the necessary tools they need to succeed, but it's not easy when you are a teacher. Budget cuts are costing us to get creative with the lack of resources. With the help of DonorsChoose, I am able to provide unique and engaging materials to help my students who experience autism and other communication disorders discover new and exciting experiences and adventure that they otherwise would not be afforded.
My Project
The chili pots, blenders, cookie sheets, colanders, tongs, mitts, ladles, pans, pizza cutters, spatulas, spoons, cutting boards, aprons, hair nets, and other items we are requesting will help the students cook foods for the staff at their school. They will be learning health, food safety, kitchen safety and cooking skills. The students every week will be learning communication skills by taking food orders from staff, executing the orders by cooking the foods, and delivering the foods.
They will also be working along side with peer buddies to further help with social skills.
By allowing the students to learn to cook and engage with others they will be given chances to grow socially.
They will be developing friendships with their peer buddies. We will be prompting their communication skills and pushing them out of their comfort zones.
