My Students
Our students attend an all-day, public school pre-kindergarten program. Our Pre-K students are always excited to come to school and learn! As the school resource specialist, I help provide resources that the students and teachers need to be successful in the pre-k classroom. This includes materials that teach children to interact through purposeful play. Purposeful play involves intentional planning and facilitation of children's play to achieve learning outcomes.
Purposeful play is an enjoyable activity that allows children to make meaning out of their experiences and have fun while doing it!
My Project
Dramatic play is a type of play where children assign and accept roles and act them out. It's pretending to be someone or something else. Role playing helps children learn real life skills such as expressive language skills, social skills, and empathy.
Skills learned in the restaurant dramatic play center will prepare the children for real life experiences they will utilize as adults.
Children will also be exposed to literacy in many ways. In this center there will be menus, printable forms, and labels; therefore, the children will begin to recognize familiar words that will extend their vocabulary.
Children will participate in writing opportunities and will become aware of the letters of the alphabet. The children will will participate in the restaurant dramatic play center and that will develop the skills necessary for working and interacting with other children.
Finally, for the 2021-2022 school year our district has a new objective to explore and learn about various careers. In early childhood the best way to do this is through purposeful play in the dramatic learning center.
