My Project
Our school is one of the top schools in the East Side District, having a population of around 2000 students. The school boasts of high achieving students, most of which go into STEM fields in college. The population of students include around 35% in the lower income range, being enrolled in the school's free and discounted lunch program. The school provides an annual science budget that helps purchase glassware and consummable chemicals, but rarely be enough for purchasing equipment that would directly benefit the teachers in the classroom. My desk and chairs, where I spend time sitting to correct papers or work on tests and grades on our computers, are still the same old ones that I have been using for so many years. The chairs, most especially, have become worn out and do not really provide the ergonomic support when I use them.
I wanted to procure newer, ergonomic chairs so that I would be able to have better focus and become more productive as I continue to teach for another school year.
As a teacher, I end up sitting at different points throughout the day, either to correct student work, types tests or prepare grades. In the 20 years that I have been teaching here, I have used practically the same chair that I scavenged from our science office when I started. I also have another chair that I allow my students to use when they have consultations on assignments and experiments. I am hoping that I would be able to procure replacement chairs as I prepare for another school year to help me and my students, supporting our bodies as we sit and work or do the consultations.
