My students do not have the same resources as you might have had when you attended school. They are eager and passionate about their writing, but without adequate resources, they will not be able to maximize their potential to be the incredible authors that they all can be!
My students attend a charter school that is part of the KIPP network in a small town located in the rural Arkansas Delta, a historically impoverished and under served region.
My students do not allow their location to limit their dreams. College is on their minds, and they are passionate about pushing themselves to become the best writers they can be. My students write, write, write. Although they are in eighth grade, they are expected to produce writing on par with a rigorous high school writing program. We write narratives, persuasive letters, memoirs, research reports, expositions, compositions, and everything and anything in between. When you put paper and pencil in front of my students, incredible things are bound to happen.
The resources I am requesting will help push my students' writing to a college level. I am requesting three college dictionaries, three college thesauruses, three rhyming dictionaries (for the poetry we write), three MLA reference books (for the research reports we write), and a book of inspirational quotations (for when we are stuck). These reference resources will immensely help my students write the best possible pieces they can.
Help my students push their writing to the next level.
They are already passionate about expressing themselves through writing - now, they need the resources that will help get them to be the most articulate and fluent writers that they can be.
