Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a 8th grade science teacher in a high needs area, low socio-economic status, with an extremely diverse area with multiple languages present.

As teachers with intense science backgrounds, we are hoping to develop curriculum and technology to assist in our students in taking on the role of scientists.

We will be utilizing the hot plate to safely heat various samples that couldn't otherwise be done with an open flame. This includes experiments in biology and organic chemistry which need to be heated at the very controlled level a hot plate can provide. This will assist the students in better understanding and utilizing equipment that scientists often use.

You will make it possible for students in an urban school district to experience the use of scientific technology in activities such as genetic transformation, organic chemistry, and other, more challenging experiments they may not other wise be exposed to without access to such equipment.
