My students come to school every day with a desire to learn despite their home environments. My school is a Title I campus which means a large percentage of students receive free lunch. Some families receive a backpack full of food to take home for the weekends. Even though they face many economic and emotional challenges, my students want and need to be successful!
For many of my students, coming to school is the best part of their day.
This has become especially true after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. My students deserve to have access to materials that will foster their love of learning and fun!
My Project
Many of my students are reading below grade level due to the lack of resources at home. I would like to provide my students with lower leveled books that they can borrow or checkout from our class library to read at home during the week and weekends. The leveled books will not only build their confidence in reading but will provide my students with the phonics, fluency and comprehension practice they need to improve their reading levels. The tablets will be used in class during guided reading stations. The students will be able to read and listen to e-books that are on their reading level. The addition of leveled books and tablets will give my students the foundation they need to be able to read on grade level.
In order for students to be successful in any subject, they must become great readers.
This project will allow my students the resources they need to foster a love for reading!
