Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These Lakeshore learning resources will help me to establish high-quality, differentiated, and meaningful small group literacy rotations. So far this year, I have struggled to find center activities that my students can complete independently while I am working with a group at the small-group table. This leads to frustration for my students and me. They are unable to complete the activities, and therefore either have to ask me for help or get off task, creating an environment which makes it difficult for me to give my full attention to the group working with me.
These differentiated materials would allow me to create an independent work station where students can practice important literacy skills like reading comprehension, fluency, and language development.
I have an extremely diverse group of students, each with different needs. Some need practice with basic decoding and reading fluency. Some have mastered fluency but need to practice their comprehension. Others are newcomers who need practice with foundational language skills. Addressing each of these needs can be difficult, especially outside of the meet with the teacher rotation. These materials would be great for giving students additional practice with the skills they struggle with.
The Reading Comprehension Daily Practice Book has short activities for students to practice each day. This would make a great morning work activity. The Fluency Card Bank comes with all the materials necessary for students to practice and monitor their reading fluency which is an extremely important skill in fourth grade. The English Language Centers would give me the much needed materials to practice language skills with my students who are new to the country. I believe each of these items would enhance the education of my students and help them become independent learners.
