Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are super enthusiastic, creative learners. They come from low-income, Hispanic families and attend a Title I school where they receive free breakfast and lunch.

This year, because of COVID-19, many of their families have been affected financially so they cannot provide the supplies my students need to be successful learners.

Despite this hardship, my students come to school with such enthusiasm and love for learning and creating.

My Project

In our Pre-K classroom we use pencils daily to practice writing letters, numbers, and for drawing. Our electric pencil sharpener gave out just as we became hybrid in October. Since then, I have been relying on a children’s manual pencil sharpener that has lost its sharpness. An electric pencil sharpener would definitely help my students continue practicing writing and fine motor skills, plus it would help save this teacher’s hands after sharpening all those pencils by hand. Ouch!

As I mentioned above, we have been hybrid since October.

I have been creating learning packets for my virtual students every three weeks. These packets contain many sheets of construction paper and activity sheets that I staple together for better organization. An electric stapler would save me time so I can prepare other lessons for my students.

The last items that I am requesting are watercolors and glue sticks for my students. My students love to paint and create works of art with construction paper and glue sticks. Not only does painting and using glue sticks help their fine motor skills, but it helps them use their imagination and show off their creativity. I want to continue fostering their love of creating and learning with your help.
