My Students
Genetics in action! How do they get that thing call a "DNA fingerprint"? What is a DNA fingerprint and what does it have to do with ME?
I am a 8th grade science teacher in a high needs area, low socio-economic status, with an extremely diverse area with multiple languages present.
As teachers with intense science backgrounds, we are hoping to develop curriculum and experiments to assist our students in taking on the role of scientists using models and accurate measuring equipment.
My Project
The students will be utilizing the DNA fingerprint supplies to practice skills of real geneticists and learn how genetics plays a part in their everyday lives. This will assist them to better understand and utilize equipment as scientists use and experience science like they never have before!
You will make it possible for students in an urban school district to experience the use of scientific technology in activities such as physics, chemistry, and genetics they may not other wise be exposed to without access to such equipment.
