This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a low-income school in Mississippi. Students come to me with a variety of needs, both academic and social-emotional. They are always eager to learn. All of our students receive free lunch. My school is currently a C-rated school, but we are striving to become a B-rated school.
They are the shining stars who brave through some pretty tough home lives in order to excel in a safe, fun, engaging learning environment.
My hope is to provide my students with a colorful, warm classroom that is not only inviting but purposeful.
My Project
Copy paper and copies are limited in my school therefore these supplies can be used to save the world and keep students active at the same time. Worksheets and paper are necessary for my students. My students are assigned homework Monday through Thursday. Paper is needed because they do not have books. Due to the age of my students colorful activities are a must. The colorful ink will allow my students to see outside of gray and white. My students would use the colored ink for center activities and weekly assessments. My students are broken into groups of four. Each group has a color and shape. The colored ink will help students identify material given and it will incorporate a sense of excitement. The pencils and expo markers will be used daily in class. Many students come to class without pencils and will not ask or say they do not have a writing instrument.
This project would significantly help my students' understanding that education is more than black and white.
My school doesn't have a colored printer for our use. Color makes education fun, exciting and inviting to students. Color is another way that I can differentiate the learning experience for students.
