Most of the students attended the same elementary school and have been friends for several years. To them, their classmates are close like their family. They support and help each other along the way in their journey of learning. They are creative, innovative, and curious. Our school is a Title I school. Many of our students come from low-income families; all of our students receive free lunch. Many of them will hopefully be the first in their families to go to college. Over half of them do not speak English at home, and for many, English is not their first language. Most of them are ELLs (English Language Learners). The diverse student population helps the students to embrace differences and bring in learning opportunities to one another.
My Project
Our students have a support block each day. Students with special needs will have a resource room support class to support their foundation skills as well as their academic classes.
With these materials, students will be ready to work and have materials to support them in their learning.
From having a pencil to having a cup to store their color pencils, to having color pens to do notes, students have the resource readily accessible for them to engage and follow along in the classroom. Students will be able to use these resources in their reading as well as their science reading and diagrams. This is very important and helpful for students to be able to visualize. The materials will allow students to have the resources to be successful in their classroom learning.
