I teach an enthusiastic third grade class in a school which happens to be in a high need area of North Carolina.

We do not have any resource books in terms of dictionaries and/or thesauruses in our classroom. Resources in our school are spread thin, so it is not always easy to get our hands on these materials. This makes it very difficult for students to search for better words in their writing, as well as finding meanings of unfamiliar words.

I am asking for 8 children's dictionaries, 5 children's thesauruses and a Spanish/English dictionary. This will give my students an opportunity to have one to two resource books per table, in which they can share with each other. These books will provide my students with the freedom to find words and word meanings that they would like to use in their writing, on their own.

Your help will empower my students to search and select words for their writing, independently. They will not have to rely on each other or on their teacher to find a meaning of an unknown word. This will also minimize the frustration they feel when trying to think of an alternate word to use. This donation will truly make a difference in the lives of my students by allowing them to take more ownership over their writing.
