Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day my students enter my classroom and are given the chance to make a difference in their own lives. My students have various disabilities from Autism to Learning Disabilities but they are expected to make good choices and take responsibility for their outcomes.
My students learn to be part of a community and to take pride in each other's accomplishments.
Our families have been living in the area for generations. This is an area with high gang activity and poverty. For as long as my students are with me, they learn that each person has value regardless of his or her life circumstance.
My Project
When we think of professional development, many times it is about topics that are supposed to develop one's job performance. The focus is usually on the methods, strategies and a guide to helping students succeed. These ideas usually focus on the student without looking at the teacher.
The teacher is the heart and soul of his/her classroom.
How a teacher feels and reacts, directly affects his/her students. As a teacher of young students, I realize the importance of building a resilient classroom. We are role models for our students. How we see and feel about the world is reflected through our students.
I want to develop my own efficacy to help students learn to navigate through life's uncertainties.
