Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to make science come to life by building a model to show your learning? The learning was endless. Help students to get the opportunity to use clay and paint to demonstrate their findings and observations about fossils.
My students are enthusiastic researchers who enjoy learning about dinosaurs and fossils.
They attend an inner city school in Southern California. Most students come from families with limited resources and limited formal education. Students enjoy coming to school and are especially eager to learn about the world around them.
My Project
One of our most exciting units is Fossils. Throughout the course of this unit, students learn about this topic and produce a research paper they share with their peers and their families. Many of my students struggle with their writing skills. Many times, I have students first make a model before they write. In this way students acquire the language and vocabulary they will need to use in their writing in a natural way. Students will especially enjoy using the model magic, since it is an air drying clay they can paint. The models will enhance the reports they write. At the end of the unit we will display our work and create a "museum" for their peers and parents to visit. Students will create artifacts for the museum with the help of the art tools and the clay. It will be a memorable experience for students and their families.
Your donations of paint, brushes and model magic will enable my students to construct their own learning in order to better understand what paleontologists do.
You will help their learning come to life. With all the cuts in educational funding, art materials have been the first to go. Thank you for your donations.
