This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As students walk in, we begin with independent reading and proceed to write a response to literature. In addition, we free write and they express many of their concerns and issues by hand. We do whole group for about ten to fifteen minutes then break up into small group instruction.
Our students come from socio-economically challenged communities.
Up to 80% of our students receive reduced lunch. My students are eager to learn. They come to class ready and full of energy to face any academic learning that comes their way. Though our students come from housing developments, our school is located in an affluent community. Although we are in an affluent community our school lacks a lot of the resources to enrich our students academically.
My Project
Our students will be able to use technology to conduct research topics based on multiple articles in science and social studies. I will provide a variety of topics which they will read and provide textual evidence to prove their argument. They will utilize the laptops by researching provided topics from multiple sources, extract evidence, and use a word processing application for notes, drafts, and for publishing their final writing piece. They will: learn how to research on the Internet using browsers, learn how to gather information from a variety of sources; prove their point of view by fact finding, and complete a polished writing project.
This project will improve student success by allowing our students to experience technology like never before.
Your donation will allow our students to familiarize themselves with how technology works while preparing them for a more effective, highly technological future. These skills and strategies will help our students to become successful in school, competitive, college and career ready, and lifelong learners.
