Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class starts the day by reviewing our learning objectives for language arts and math. This enforces our shared positive learning expectations that everyone will achieve grade level proficiency. Our favorite quote is "FAIL" stands for: First Attempt at Learning" everyone can achieve.
My class of 32 students (15 girls 17 boys) and come from diverse Latino backgrounds.
Sixteen of my students are English language learners and seven students have a learning disability. Most of my students have not met proficiency benchmarks for reading or math. They need positive reinforcement improve their self esteem and work habits. Many students began the school year with behavior issues but they are making progress improving the class environment. My school is located in the inner city of Laos Angeles and it serves students a low socio-economic background.
My Project
The laptop I am seeking will help students access digital information and publish the work they produce for language arts and math. They will create power point and use Word for reports. For math they will be able to collect, analyze, and produce charts and graphs using excel. Students will also use the technology to review and practice math and language arts skills. As well as taking taking exams on a digital platform.
My project will help my students develop proficiency with digital skills and understand the connection of how the academic standards they are learning with the fifth grade curriculum are applied to solve real life problems.
My students will have access to technology tools that will help them access project based-learning. My goal is for the students to develop projects so they can showcase their work and have a more meaningful learning experience.
