it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our teachers and students have benefited so much from our learning around research-aligned reading and writing practices. As we have learned, we have begun piloting a new computer-based intervention and also realized some materials are needed to provide our students with the best learning experiences.
Teachers constantly use their finances to ensure our students have what they need.
The funding of this project would alleviate some of that burden. The materials listed would support teachers with providing research-based small groups, workstations, and writing instruction.
The headphones would particularly support us with the current pilot we are participating in, where students receive live feedback as they practice foundational skills such as letter sounds and sight words, which we know students need consistently to solidify those skills. This can often be a lot on teachers to provide the needed at-bats one-on-one. The canvas bags will be used as book bags so students can select interest and skill-based books to read for the week. During our LETRS II training, we also learned the importance of handwriting and providing students with the proper resources, such as thin markers and golf pencils, to support students with proper letter formation. The sand timers will support students with reading fluency work, and the laminator pouches will create fun, engaging literacy centers that students can use throughout the year. These materials will support our continued work by providing students with engaging research-aligned reading and writing instruction and practice.
