Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom involves many students attempting to use the computers to take their Accelerated Reader tests, trying to work on their iReady programs or conducting research on the computers. My students enjoy reading around the room and taking tests in to meet their reading goals.

My students are my Superstars!

They are smiling, energetic and eager to come to school each day. This year I teach Reading and Language Arts to two groups of students. One group has 25 gifted students that are thirsty for knowledge. They enjoy being challenged and want to know more about the world around them. The other group has 18 students. Most of them are English Language Learners. They come from other countries and do not speak any English or are still learning English. Many students come from Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala among other countries. They are new to this country and to the public school system. Our school is growing every day. We have over 820 students enrolled. Most of the students at my school are on free or reduced lunch.

My Project

At this time, we are learning about inventions and how problem solving leads to new inventions. My students will be learning about the origins of inventions such as everyday items that we take for granted. They will be learning about the first refrigerator, the first microwave, telephone, shower, stove and other household items. With the use of this laptop, my students will be able to learn in groups to conduct more research. They will take ownership of their own learning. They will be able to research, take notes, summarize and present their findings to the class. Next, they will be learning about famous landmarks, what better than to be able to research the origins of these landmarks? Both classes will be able to use this laptop to complete their weekly iReady lessons too in order to improve their comprehension. My English Learner students will also be able to listen to stories through the MyOn program. The headphones are much needed as the ones we have do not work.

Your donations to this project would be extremely beneficial in helping my students reach their learning goals.

They will be able to use the laptop to improve their reading comprehension through Accelerated Reader tests, iReady programs, and MyOn reading. They will also be able to conduct research and become lifelong learners. This laptop will foster intrinsic learning as the students work both independently and in groups. They will be better prepared in this age of technology.
